New Perspectives on Life – Conscious Evolution

In the previous post entitled “New Perspectives on Life: The Nature of Reality” I spoke of how we create our own reality. It goes without saying that when you create your reality then you’re also creating the future.

This is something that I find very timely in the midst of this pandemic where we seem to be in between worlds. Our old world before COVID and the one that will come after. I wonder what would happen if more people realized the power they have to participate in what is to come instead of feeling fear of the unknown and a sense of no control? It’s something I think about a lot and I feel it’s important to get the word out: we can be active participants in what comes next. This can be both daunting and liberating. Scary but also exciting.

When it comes to creating the future the work of thought leader Barbara Marx Hubbard is foremost in my mind. Co-founder and president of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution, Hubbard believed that humanity was on the threshold of a quantum leap if new scientific, social, and spiritual capacities were integrated to address the myriad of our global crises. Her 1998 book entitled “Conscious Evolution: Awakening the Power of Our Social Potential” was about her futurist ideas in making a better society as well as focusing on what the conscious mind can do if it is aware of its power. As Barbara said:

“We are moving from unconscious evolution through natural selection to conscious evolution by choice.”

In this light evolution doesn’t just happen to us, we also happen to it. It’s a symbiotic process. According to Barbara:

“In the next 30 years we can destroy our world. With the very same powers – spiritual, social, scientific – we can evolve our world. Our mission is to serve as catalysts for a planetary awakening in our lifetime, to take a non-violent path to the next stage of our evolution.”

Another perspective on the future that I’ve come across lately is found in the work of Cynthia Sue Larson who I spoke of in “New Perspectives on Life – How To Create Your Reality”. Recently Cynthia has been talking about how humanity is at a crossroads where we will have to choose between Transhumanism and Revhumanism. This crossroads isn’t something only she is talking about but Revhumanism seems to be.

Re: Transhumanisim. If you aren’t already familiar with transhumanism my very simplistic description of it is it’s where humans become enhanced with technology. We eventually become a hybrid of human and Artificial Intelligence. Apparently if we go this route things won’t go so well and we won’t last long as a species.

Re: Revhumanism. This is a term I believe Cynthia herself coined. Per her website it’s is a philosophy of harmoniously living and co-creating with a living, developing cosmos with reverence for the earth and other beings. Cynthia explains that the word “Rev”comes from latin and means reviving, regaining, and/or recalling. But it also comes stands for reverence. Revhumanism invites humans to return to honoring the earth as a source of life and sustenance. It invites us to honor all life, ourselves included.

So here we are, in between one world dying and another birthing. Ever wonder what our future will look like? Well the answer to that is going to depend on the choices that each one of us makes going forward. My hope is that more and more people will recognize their power to create in small ways and big and that we all step into the responsibility of creating a world that we can all be proud of and thrive within.
